A huge oil spill is spreading around the Gulf of Mexico after a B.P drilling rig exploded, killing 11 platform workers and 17 others. It is estimated to be gushing out 12,000 to 100,000 (1,900,000 to 16,000,000 litres) a day and effecting heaps of the sea and bird life.
Some of the things the B.P oil company have tried to stop the spill are:
-Pumping golf balls, shredded tyres, knotted ropes and hair into the well to stop the flow of oil
-Capping the well using underwater robots
-Recovering the oil using undersea siphons (pumps) and other new technology

This is such an interesting topic. I want to know what can be done to stop this ever happening again? what things have they put in place to monitor the environmental impacts and how are they aiming to minimise the long term effects.

this is really badfor mexico, because there wont be much sea life, and is also bad for the rest of the world to, because there will be less oil to use for other stuff, like to run cars.
ReplyDeleteI think that the B.P should try everything, it is an upset to mother earth the natural environment is suffering from this event and the wildlife are dying from the oils effects.
ReplyDeleteBP still haven't stopped the oil spill and should be ashamed about all the damage they are doing to the environment and their reputation. Alot of people buy BP oil but now customers may think twice before buying their products.
